   The larger Titan vehicles used two solid boosters to increase   
   payload, the Delta-IV Heavy vehicles, however, use multiples   
   of the Delta-IV first stage.  This is analogous to the way   
   the Russian Soyuz rockets are designed, though with somewhat   
   greater flexibility.  The advantage over the solid strapon   
   design is that you improve safety and reliability by   
   eliminating solids while lowering cost by reducing the   
   number of different stages and stage types.
