   If it's doing a SpaceShip One-type trajectory, it won't need much in the way   
   of thermal protection.  Remember that the speed of reentry is going to be   
   low; it's not like an orbital reentry.   
      
   The TPS on the X-15 was AFAIK more for the high-speed research flights, not   
   the high-altitude ones.
