   ISTR reading in an analysis of the Shoemaker-Levy strikes on Jupiter   
   that the aerodynamic/heating breakup time for a nickel-iron impactor   
   would have been just a few seconds longer than that for a "dirty   
   snowball." Those stresses buuild up *fast*.
