Perhaps if you lead it       through a length of empty tubing first, some of the water will condense before       the gas reaches the drying        column so the drying agent works longer. I haven't done this myself, but if       you search the chemical literature you are sure to find plenty of diagrams for       drying apparatuses.              You can also try mixing together ammonium sulfate fertilizer and sodium       hydroxide. I read about one person who mixed these together dry and added only       a little water to make NH3 gas.
