   I have received a request to pass along this question to sci.chem on behalf of   
   an interested amateur. It's a longshot.   
      
   Backstory: this person had a friend who said he learned organic chemistry by   
   reading the textbook used in Fall 1978 in a course taught by the Harvard   
   Extension School by a woman. He has decided that if his friend learned organic   
   chemistry (almost?)    
   entirely from this textbook, he might find it a good way to deepen his   
   knowledge of the subject.   
      
   Please, no guesses. If you were associated with the Harvard Extension School   
   around this time and know what book they were using, please post and I will   
   pass the answer along to my friend.
