   There are something in excess of 500,000 deaths annually in the UK.   
      
   That's more than 125,000 per quarter. Winter is a quarter.   
      
   My bet is that more people die in winter than in summer, so you'd expect   
   more than 125,000 to have died in winter 2016/2017.   
      
   If, instead of the expected 125,000+, only 48,000 died, someone has to   
   have been doing something right.
