From: nobody@microsoft.com              Winter Snow Cover in the Northern Hemisphere              https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/2657/winter-snow-cover-       n-the-northern-hemisphere              https://eoimages.gsfc.nasa.gov/images/imagerecords/2000/2657/na_       mo_snowcover_lrg.jpg              ///              These images are archives but show how bad it gets. Snow reflects solar       energy back into space so it amplifies cooling. The second link above is for       a clickable high resolution image. One can see ice beginning to form on the       Great Lakes, so this is early winter. By late winter fresh water lakes and       Hudson Bay are 100% frozen. Lake Eire is six feet above normal so there will       be great damage in cottage country. It is a miracle of the modern era that       snow and ice melt in Spring or early Summer. As late as 14,000 years ago it       did not melt but formed a miles high continental ice sheet that scoured the       land. Glacier scoured bedrock can be seen in Central Park in NYC, NY, USA.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
