   On This Day.

Around this time in 1998 the switch-over between different families
of satellite instruments (MSU -> AMUS) combined with a gear change in the
Earth's climate to produce average global land, ocean and land+ocean
temps not seen since Fred Flinstone gradyated highschool.
For ever after -- well up until a couple years later in many casse --
these freak measurments was used as a yardstick to judge
the depth of the current Great New Ice Age.

On another Earth like planet -- but with rules recognised by
   >=97% of working scientists -- present La Nina (significantly
colder E Pac than normal) conditions are significantly warmer than the
Super El Nino (sig warmer E Pac than normal) of 1998

   --
CO2 has increased by 40% in the past few decades, with no
observable effect on temperatures. What is stabilizing the system?
