      XPost: alt.global-warming              With SST off the US E coast more than 1.5C above 1980s avgs and a La Nina       now threatening as the tropical E Pac takes a dive the US local       climate has reacted by throwing up a few more tornadoes that normal       for August.              As some mets and storm chasers have quipped in the past couple weeks --       August is the new May.                     NOAA storm reports for August 1-16:               AUG 2020 AUG 2019 AUG 2011       day TORN HAIL WIND TORN HAIL WIND TORN HAIL WIND       01 2 13 69 0 30 136 0 164 187       02 7 10 64 0 7 40 3 33 97       03 32 11 137 0 26 50 0 23 169       04 21 49 22 1 17 49 0 22 74       05 0 37 68 1 58 68 1 18 71       06 0 24 131 2 72 193 3 31 123       07 2 18 73 5 33 309 1 63 275       08 2 41 74 1 22 229 1 42 280       09 6 108 89 4 33 54 3 179 265       10 16 30 879 2 63 53 2 49 43       11 0 23 107 14 91 94 9 51 111       12 0 8 94 5 8 58 1 36 191       13 1 30 58 13 74 235 0 57 201       14 17 74 104 0 45 50 4 39 152       15 3 48 26 7 129 205 0 14 19       16 0 83 144 0 38 89 0 2 29       TOT 109 607 2139 55 746 1912 28 823 2287       P.R. 211 1176 4144 107 1445 3705 54 1595 4431       ACT - - - 73 - - 52 - -                     The "P.R." line estimates the month total pro rate i.e. multiplying       the Aug 1-16 totals by (30/16). Note how the "Actual" count for the       month for 2019 and 2011 are "close" to this estimate. We might assume       that the "211" estimated for this month might also be close to the       actual count.              All numbers are subject to revision. It's likely some of the 2020       numbers will go up. The 2019 and 2011 may go up or down as data is       reviewed.              I like yo use 2011 as a reference case these days. It was "the"       superoutbreak year that saw $11 bn in tornado damage in the Apr       barrage that saw 360 confirmed storms.              --       Upcoming events:       07 Oct 2020 2020Q3 Billion Dollar Disasters NOAA              BREAKING (17 Aug): Victoria has recorded 282 new cases and a daily       record 25 deaths from covid19 over the past 24 hrs.              Japan's economy shrinks at record rate, slammed by pandemic       POLITICO, 17 Aug 2020 03:42Z       Tokyo.
