virus update: new surge in the US and ac
   28 Oct 20 10:49:10

   XPost: alt.global-warming

Unfortunately it's not "more testing" -- the surge in new
cases corresponds with a surge in new hospitalizations.

As a model of what is happening in a country with a supposed vaccine
there's Russia where the central govt has just issued a mask order
to slow the spread of the disease.

Russia implements national mask mandate as coronavirus cases rise
     The Hill, 27 Oct 2020 14:26Z
Russia's govt announced a nationwide mask mandate on Tue, a
move health officials hope will blunt a sharp surge in cases that
     began last month.
[Apparently the Russian vaccine is not working very well and the
country is seeing a 2nd wave].

More evidence is coming forward that "immunity" after exposure
to the disease or, presumably, after vaccination is relatively short.
Some experts are finally pointing out an effective treatment
rather than vaccines should be maybe prioritized to save some lives.

     [Sur-prise!]
UK study finds evidence of waning antibody immunity to COVID-19 over time
     Yahoo News, 27 Oct 2020 0:54Z
Antibodies against the novel coronavirus declined rapidly in the British
population during the summer, a study found on Tue, suggesting
     protection after ...

Covid: Antibodies 'fall rapidly after infection'
     BBC News, 27 Oct 2020 14:18Z
This is likely to mean immunity levels decline and raises the risk of
     reinfection, researchers say.
