The NOAA has updated its ERSSTv5 gridded dataset for the world's sea
   surf temp.

While no regional averages or trends are published with the update my
calculations show global SST in Dec 2020 according to the dataset was
around .29C above the baseline period (approx ~1980s avg temps)
ranking the month as the 9th warmest in the past 167 years.

The warmest regions were again the North Pole and N Hem at +.47 and
+.58C above normal. Both regions ranked 4th warmest Dec since the 1850s.

The summary table for the month is as follows:

   Region	Rank	Anom
   	(/167)	(rel ~1980s)
   Nhem	4	0.5769
   Npole	4	0.4734
   Globe	9	0.2925
   Shem	28	0.0571
   Equat	39	0.0799
