   Aboriginal girls, in the 1930s, escaped from a "settlement" in which   
   they had been confined to try to return to their home.   
      
   Crystal quotes a passage about the girls' shock when they realized they   
   would not be allowed to speak their mother tongue (Mardujara) in the   
   "settlement".
