From: benlizro@ihug.co.nz              Somewhere sometime I picked up a copy of "The Warden", and finally got       around to reading it a couple of years ago. That's my only dollop of       Trollope. A lot of my reading works that way.              Crystal quotes a passage from his autobiography in which he ponders the       dilemma of wanting to write in a popular, natural sort of English while       still obeying the rules of grammar. He concludes that (if I may       paraphrase) you have to practise long and hard in order to be natural.              The autobiography is available online:              https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5978              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
