   Apart from the modern geometric meaning of 'angle', German "Winkel"   
   also means 'corner': im hintersten Winkel 'in the remotest corner'.   
   In English you have "corner store", so a shift in meaning from   
   'corner' to 'shop' in Dutch is not farfetched.
