While probably true (his place of birth lies in the region that belonged to
the historical province of Poitou, and it can be assumed that he spoke
Poitevin, a dialect of Poitevin–Saintongeais, a regional French dialect), it
   is also irrelevant.

At the time of his birth, his place of birth was called La Haye-en-Touraine.
"The town was renamed /La Haye-Descartes/ in 1802 in his honour, and then
   renamed again /Descartes/ in 1967."
