   The symbol v(t) denotes a function v of an independent variable 't'.   
      
   The common use of 'v' is for 'velocity' and 't' for 'time'.   
      
   So, apparently velocity v of something is considered, where v changes in   
   time.   
      
   What velocity changes is sofar unknown.
