   Not really. Heisenberg and other Germans knew the potential but the   
   purity required would be far beyond anything Germany could do. So they   
   were lackadaisically pursuing electricity generation to reduce coal   
   dependence.   
      
   Everyone understood the idea. Japan figured it out the day after   
   Hiroshima. The problem is getting U235 concentrated beyond micrograms is   
   extremely expensive. Only the USA could fight a two front war and purify   
   uranium.

   They were interned in an english house fully wired with bugs. They were   
   told about Hiroshima, and their discussions were recorded.   
      
   Their problem was a chemical blind alley. A reactor requires some   
   chemistry to work. Germans were chasing heavy water throughout the war.   
   Fermi chose graphite, and he had reactors running. Graphite had boron   
   with bad chemistry, and Germans stopped there. Fermi realised the boron
