There is such a stark lack of studies dealing with this obvious
question. Almost nothing is done. The only thing found so far (i.e.
after 200 years of tribal cro-magnons taking up the role of scientist
for other humans) is that epilepsy patients show weekly patterns of
   seizure.

So there's some sort of brain activity that cycles every 7 days, some
"circaseptan" rhythms, so to speak, concurrent with circadian ones. Hard
to believe there's almost nothing that's done about this.

Bullshit about concept of week is plenty though. There's an entire book
about 7-day week that is packed with usual bullshit, and does not have
anything about how human settled for that particular period to regulate
his life, other than silly reasons from Bible and Babylonians and ...

   Ahh...

Well, at least this much is known that _some_ brain activity has a 7-day
cycle. This is by itself valuable, and could be related to the reason
why a 7-day period was gradually adopted by all humans, to repeat their
   life activities.

I couldn't find a link to REM amount in 7-days, although REM is directly
involved with consolidation of anything understood and learned by brain,
and integrating them with what's already there, resulting long term
control over the material learned. Nobody has made a connection of it
   with the 7-day period.

Could be that the consolidation takes place in chunks larger than what
gets processed with every REM experienced? I'm imagining something would
get stored and stored and stored in some half-assed way inside brain
during REM periods, until in about a week's time reaches the threshold
level and undergoes actual consolidation with previously consolidated
   material in brain.

This would explain why people use a 7-day period to repeat their life
activities. 7 day period of fasting in some Indian practices. 7-day
period of going to Mosques for special prayers, etc. And 7-day period
   for negotiating with Great Satan!
