   You know there is I5 but there are also buildings in LA.   
      
   As far as this post is concerned.   
      
   1. Space shots often go from west to east.  This is to   
   take advantage of the Earth's rotation which also goes   
   from west to east. Therefore a lot of space launches   
   in southern California may go over ... Phoenix and   
   Las Vegas.   
      
   2. The island referred to is not as close to the coast   
   of mainland North America as Manhattan Island is to the   
   coast of mainland North America.  (By some definitions   
   Manhattan may not be an island.)
