XPost: misc.immigration.usa, alt.law-enforcement, sac.politics       XPost: talk.politics.guns, talk.politics.misc       From: yourdime@outlook.com              Washington’s Attorney General has filed a lawsuit against Adams County       Sheriff Dale J. Wagner. Attorney General Nick Brown claimed Wagner       violated the law by assisting federal immigration officers. The lawsuit       cites the 2019 Keep Washington Working Act, which limits cooperation with       federal immigration enforcement.              Brown stated, “The State cannot stand by when elected officials publicly       boast that they are breaking state law and putting their own communities       at risk.”              Wagner stated, “The state’s restrictions attempt to tie the hands of law       enforcement, making it harder to cooperate with federal agencies that help       keep dangerous individuals off our streets.”              Wagner added, “Public safety should never be a political issue, yet this       lawsuit prioritizes ideology over the safety of our communities.”              The lawsuit has raised concerns over law enforcement practices in Adams       County, asserting that Wagner’s deputies unlawfully detained individuals       based solely on immigration status.              Attorney Joel B. Ard wrote, “Federal law is supreme over state law, and       Adams County cannot discriminate against the federal government and its       immigration enforcement efforts, nor can the County impede these efforts,       as the Sanctuary State Statute requires.”              Brown’s lawsuit states, “The federal government has no authority to coerce       or direct local law enforcement for its own purposes.”              Legal representation for Wagner has been provided by America First Legal,       co-founded by former Trump aide Stephen Miller. The Attorney General’s       office intends to settle the matter without lengthy litigation.              ICE recently arrested two suspected members of Tren de Aragua gang in       Spokane County, Washington. The arrests are associated with the       controversial deportation flights to El Salvador, raising legal questions       over immigration enforcement tactics.              Attorney Kyle Madsen Madsen said, “Under the Keep Washington Working Act,       local law enforcement is precluded from gathering immigration information       or sharing information with local law enforcement agencies unless there is       a specific nexus between the underlying criminal allegation and some sort       of immigration issue.”              https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/breaking-state-law-ag-sues-sheriff-over-       ice-cooperation/ar-AA1BVm5N              --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
