XPost: alt.society.homeless, talk.politics.guns, sac.politics       XPost: alt.fan.rush-limbaugh, alt.crime       From: leroysoetoro@americans-first.com              https://komonews.com/news/local/seattle-clears-homeless-camp-after-double-       homicide-community-demands-action-on-safety-police-drugs-shelter#              City crews cleared out a homeless camp at a park in north Seattle where       two people were shot and killed earlier this week. The gunman has not been       caught.              The Unified Care Team (UCT), which handles homelessness issues for the       city of Seattle, posted notices on Tuesday night for people to leave       Virgil Flaim Park. Neighbors said the cleanup began early Wednesday       morning and was completed by 9:30 a.m.              The encampment had been growing in recent weeks at the park on NE 123rd       Street in Lake City, according to neighbors, who routinely complained       about the impacts of open drug use so close to a children’s playground.              “I just hope they get the person responsible and the city starts to do       more about the problem with the homeless, because being in the parks and       kids playing and such, we just want it to be a safe environment,” said       Charles Hall, who lives nearby. “Homelessness is a problem, and my heart       goes out to the homeless people, and I pray for them every day. I just       don’t want this kind of violence in the neighborhood.”              The encampment had been swept before, but people returned with their tents       earlier this summer. The double homicide was a final straw for many       neighbors.              “They got rid of all the leftover trash, but the campers came back. They       came back in hordes,” said Chris Meyer, another neighbor. “It’s just a       shame to have it tainted or for people to feel unsafe in their park.       People need to feel safe when they’re here.”              Police said one of the shooting victims, a 40-year-old man, died at the       park. The other man, who was 33, died at Harborview Medical Center a short       time later. One weapon was recovered at the crime scene. Witnesses told       police they saw the suspect run south from the park shortly before the       shots were fired.              It’s not yet clear what led to the shooting.              A UCT spokesperson wrote in an email that outreach teams visited the       encampment 30 times this year to “help make connections to shelter,       permanent housing, and supportive services.”              Everyone contacted received at least one offer of shelter. During the       outreach period, trash was also routinely collected.              The spokesperson did not indicate that anyone actually accepted the help       being offered. Moving forward, UCT plans to work with the Seattle Police       Department and other organizations to determine the appropriate steps to       maintain the park as a safe and welcoming space for all users.                     --       November 5, 2024 - Congratulations President Donald Trump. We look       forward to America being great again.              We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so that       stupid people won't be offended.              Every day is an IQ test. Some pass, some, not so much.              Thank you for cleaning up the disasters of the 2008-2017, 2020-2024 Obama       / Biden / Harris fiascos, President Trump.              Under Barack Obama's leadership, the United States of America became the       The World According To Garp. Obama sold out heterosexuals for Hollywood       queer liberal democrat donors.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
