   Editor’s note: This story reported spending numbers provided by the King   
   County auditor. The auditor on Sept. 9, 2025, admitted a mistake and   
   corrected those figures. According to the revised figures, King County’s   
   Department of Community and Human Services increased grant-making from   
   $922 million in 2019-20 to $1.8 billion in 2023-24, an increase of 95%.   
      
   A King County government department failed to properly oversee grants as   
   the funding it distributed skyrocketed over the last few years,   
   resulting in unapproved payments and possible fraud, a new report from   
   the county auditor’s office found.
