   Little history class, once again. The Frankish empire once was englobing   
   approximately what is today Spain, France and Germany. When the emperor   
   died, the tradition was to separate the territory between the inheritant   
   sons. This tradition was abandonned later, but yes spanish language is a   
   cousin of the french. They have common latin roots.  Italian is closer.
