   Your numbers are intriguing but quite wrong. You stipulated "in freeing   
   Europe" which I interpret as meaning French who fought AFTER the official   
   June 1940 surrender. You say France lost 340,000 soldiers? According to   
   Soviet scholar Boris Urlanis who put many years of research into the topic   
   of W.W.II deaths, Free French,KIA,(killed in action from 1940-1945) numbered   
   58,000. Add to this, 20,000 KIA resistance forces.   
   Then we can dismiss Alsatian French conscripts KIA w/German army: 40,000   
   because in this instance the number represented French killed fighting FOR   
   Hitler. So we are back to an approx. total of 78,000. There were 40,000   
   French troop deaths as Prisoners of War so let's discount that number as   
   anything representing fighting to free Europe. Then we show KIA, 1939-40   
   War: 92,000 which again has nothing to do with freeing Europe because from   
   1939 to 1940, Hitler's conquest of Europe was only just beginning. And so we   
   see that a figure of 340,000 French troops killed freeing Europe is   
   preposterous. The real figure approximates 78,000 yet the original poster   
   wants us to believe that France lost 53% more troops freeing Europe than the   
   United States. What nonsensical crap! Oh by the way: David Drake,

   791 legal executions of FRENCH COLLABORATIONISTS.   
      
      
   Let's go back now and look at Boris Ulanis's figures regarding American   
   troops who died to free Europe. It's about 109,000 while close to 400,000   
   died in all three theaters of war including North Africa. And so the truth   
   is that America lost 39% more troops fighting to free Europe than did   
   France. So much for the propagandistically inflated figures of the poster   
   whom I am proving lies like a rug.   
      
   Regarding Russian troops killed freeing Europe, estimates range between 10   
   to 14 MILLION so I can't find fault with the poster's number. Furthermore   
   all Allied armies in WWII owe a debt of gratitude to Joe Stalin and his   
   Generals because 8 out of every 10 Germans killed in the war were at the   
   hands of Russian troops. Russia certainly did turn nasty as hell after the   
   war--became a menace bigger than Hitler ever was but history proves without   
   her guts and determination, Hitler would have ruled all of Europe and   
   perhaps, in due time, the world.
