Oi, not all socialists are or were Marxists, let alone aligned to the Soviet
State. The original split in the European left was between Bakunin and Marx
during the time of the First International, leaving a massive movement outside
of Soviet influence (most importantly the CNT in France and Spain, where it
was central in the revolution and subsequent Civil War) and had no truck at
all with the Nazis. They're generally known as anarchists, but sometimes known
as Left Libertarians or Libertarian Socialists.
