   >well...

So some of these people left in the city, out of 480,000, 15 to 20
thousand stayed behind for one reason or another, I hear things like
"a sea of humanity sitting and lying on Lake Ponchetrain Bridge," are
being evacuated by helicopters. They have the "72 Golden Hours"
before death begins to start harvesting the herd, for lack of water if
   nothing else.

It is a race against time right now, and the Official Orders are for
everyone to evacuate the city, and they won't be allowed to return for
12 to 16 weeks, because the situation is unfit for human habitation.

In fact, the levels in Lake Ponchetrain and the city have equalized,
and the Army Corps of Engineers can't find anything to stop the 500
foot breech in the levie ( they wanted 7 ton sandbags and 15 foot
concrete highway dividers, dropped by Chinook helicopters, but can't
get them on site because of the debris filled rivers ), they're
considering using a barge. This tells me there was NEVER A PLAN to
deal with this OBVIOUS THREAT. People in charge are standing around
with their thumbs stuck in their assholes, wondering what to do about
a problem they have known about for as long as I've been alive.

But this is just the beginning of a LONG NIGHTMARE, as thousands are
probably already dead in attics and in the water, and the rotting
process has begun. They will decompose in the water or be eaten by
sealife; there is a report of at least one shark swimming around in
water up to 20 feet deep. The rotting bodies in the houses...who
   knows?

Looting, bands of armed men roaming about ( with guns stolen from a
local walmart ), one cop shot in the head for trying to stop the
thefts, so the cops now are just watching and doing nothing to stop
the raiders of the sunken ark, because they are under orders to Rescue
only. Gunfire in the night, over what who knows what and who cares.

Civilization as we know it has disappeared from the Easy, and this is
what it looks like after only a few days. There is a lesson in this
for all of us who plan on *bugging in.*
