From: not.jim.silverton@verizon.net              Tory Andrew Rosindell (Romford) called for a federal system similar to       Australia or Canada that would give each of the home nations its own       parliament with a UK Parliament covering defence, foreign affairs,       national security, immigration and currency management.              However, such ideas do not take into account the overwhelming population       of "England" when compared with Scotland, Wales or N. Ireland. A federal       system will only work if England is divided into manageable components       like Northumbria, Yorkshire, Midlands, London, Essex and Wessex. Each       might have a separate assembly and the Parliament at Westminster would       have overall purview of the whole United Kingdom.                     --       Jim Silverton (Potomac, MD)              Extraneous "not." in Reply To.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
