   The 2001 census map might be slightly on the pessimistic side as IIRC   
   the question asked was more like "Do you speak Gaelic ?" than "Do you   
   know any Gaelic ?" thus effectively excluding e.g. many people who   
   would still have knowledge of it from school but presently do not have   
   the opportunity to use it.
