My surname is Leslie and it is translated as Mac an Fhleisdeir here, which
means son of the fletcher or arrow maker. However no one of note was a
fletcher or arrow maker. More importantly, the first recorded version of the
   name is Lesselyn or Leschelyn.
This would cast a lot of doubt on the Mac an Fhleisdeir translation.
I have read in many different place name books that Lesselyn comes from a few
possible meanings. Lìos celyn, lìos cuilinn, or lìos linne to name a few.
If anyone has an idea on what the original Gaelic version of this name may
have been, please help me out. I've been trying to figure this out for some
   time now.
