You could have done a few simple searches and got a lot nearer to
   answering your own query:

In 1891 Joseph/James/Margaret/John are in a household with George Purdy
as head with George's mother and his father-in-law

In 1881 Joseph/James/Margaret were with their parents George and Francis

Search the GRO birth index and discover the mother's maiden name is
Rowell Name: Mother's Maiden Surname: PURDY, JOSEPH ROWELL, ROWELL
Order GRO Reference: 1873 D Quarter in MORPETH Volume 10B Page 347
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname: PURDY, JOHN, ROWELL Order GRO Reference:
   1884 M Quarter in MORPETH Volume 10B Page 375

Marriages Jun PURDY George Morpeth 10b 612 ROWELL Frances Morpeth 10b 612

   And these fit:
   Deaths Mar 1885 Purdy Frances 36 Morpeth 10b 235
Deaths Jun 1899 Purdy George Craggs 51 Morpeth 10b 245

So the enumerator was possibly distracted when completing the form from
notes should have put Joseph as head and the others as sister and brother
