There is also, and for all other messages, a large-ish-arrow       over on the right marked "Reply". Clicking on that opens a "follow-up"       screen with the message being responded to (marked with > at the start       of each line) at the top and the cursor positioned below. There is no       obvious indication of WHERE the message is going - nothing the       equivalent of the To: or Newsgroup: line in the header section of an       e-mailer.       >       > The other issue is I can see no way to use Google Groups to send a       > private email reply as the email address of the sender is disguised by       > Google.              Next to the Reply arrow is a small indicator that there is a drop-down       menu behind it and the first item on that menu is "Reply privately to       author." Clicking on that brings up a screen that is slightly similar       to the "Reply" one, but it looks more like the screen of an e-mail       program and offers HTML text formatting but in this case the cursor is       positioned ABOVE the quoted text. It's possible to to privately reply       this way even when the sender's e-mail address is partly disguised.              As far as I know, I have never set up an option to use quoted text - I       don't even know if that's possible, but the fact that I am seeing it       every time does make me wonder why so many of our "casual visitors" do       not include it. As for the apparent confusion about newsgroup/private       e-mail, the screens do appear rather different and would alert ME, but       to someone not familiar with newsgroups or Goggle Gropes, it's probably       just accepted as a quirk of that website.                     --       Jenny M Benson       http://jennygenes.blogspot.co.uk/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
