Yes, with surprisingly little fanfare, I thought!

It's a census in all but name. Differences from a census: it doesn't
show relationships; it shows DOB (to the day, which is very useful!)
rather than age; it shows sometimes extra detail of auxiliary occupation
such as ARP warden; since it was the basis of NHS records until well
into the 20th century, it often shows the surname crossed out and
replaced for a married woman (though with the original still legible),
though with a date written in that isn't necessarily the date of the
change; and details of people who were born less than 100 years before
the date you look at it blanked out (e. g. dated after 1918-6-10).

They remove the blanking if someone convinces them that the person is no
longer alive; when it was only FindMyPast that offered this record, that
was by for example emailing FMP a copy of the death certificate; I'm not
   sure now.

The blanking doesn't always obscure all the details, such as where they
   stick above or below the lines (especially if the page image is curved);
conversely, it always covers the address part of the line (left two
columns or so), which is awkward if the following line contains only
ditto marks. (The transcript - of the unblanked lines - will show the
address, but transcripts aren't always correct.)

Look out for #1. Don't step in #2 either.
