   I argued that with my late father some 30 years ago, on the grounds that you   
   are suggesting. He, being accustomed to requirements in WWII, was maybe a   
   little bit bemused.   
      
   Nowadays, the argument has almost no relevance. We have to carry cards or   
   phones that identify us if we are to live a normal life.   
      
   The relevant argument today is 'how far does a single ID betray us if   
   fraudsters use it?".   
      
   But such a discussion isn't really appropriate to this group.
