   As suggested I emailed the archives to ask if they could explain what   
   the Polkaart reference meant.   
      
   They have very kindly replied and told me:   
      
   Polkaart is Politiekaart (police card), a card for registration of a   
   foreigner. Unfortunately these cards are not kept anymore.   
      
   Sad that the cards weren't kept, but they can't keep everything I   
   suppose and at least I now know what the entry refers to.   
   Many thanks to you both again for all the help with this. I still don't   
   know what happened to him before his arrival in the Netherlands or   
   after his later arrival in Belgium, but after so many years of just   
   knowing nothing at all after his baptism  this is a real step forward.   
   I'll keep looking.
