From: nemonews@hotmail.co.uk              Would the entry in the GRO Chaplains' Returns of Marriages for a       marriage of British soldier in France in 1825 give the name of the       father of the groom?              I wrote to this list some years ago about a relative of mine, Joseph       Pitt of Canterbury, who used the alias Dineage (various spellings) for       some time during his life, several of his children being baptised with       that surname. Joseph's older brother was named Samuel Pitt and there is       a PR entry for his public Baptism at St Mary Magdalene, Canterbury in       1799, following private Baptism in Birmingham in 1795. I have found no       further records for Samuel Pitt, but I have found a lot of records       relating to Samuel Dinenage, born 1895, apparently in Canterbury.              Another connection to the Dinenage surname is that Joseph's daughter,       Sophia, was a witness to the marriage of a Mary Ann Pitt Dinenage to       Sophia's husband's brother. Mary Ann was possibly the daughter of a       brother of Joseph Pitt. Some Australian records say her father was       William Pitt who was a gunmaker, as was Joseph's father.              I am trying to prove or disprove that Samuel Pitt and Samuel Dinenage       were one and the same, but I have not yet found any information       concerning Samuel Dinenage's parentage. Hence my query about his       marriage record.       --       Jenny M Benson       http://jennygenes.blogspot.co.uk/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
