|    wreck of Athelbasca 1838    |

From: myths@ic24.net              Does anyone know of the wreck on 1838 of a ship called Athelbasca?              What strip of coast did the Wirral registration district cover?              Reason for asking:               My great-uncle's 1959 typed account of his mother's family includes a       Matthew Gatenby who drowned in the wreck of the Athelbasca in 1838 and       that. "old family documents say" that his brother-in-law "Stephen       Nesfield was a victim on the same occasion."              I have not found a reference to a wreck of Athelbasca in 1838, or any       ships with that name. I have forund references to ships called       Athabasca, but no wrecks of such ships in 1838.              FreeBMD shows a death af a Stephen Nesfield registered in the Wirral       registration district in the 3rd quarter 1838, but no similar entry       for a Matthew Gatenby I would like more confirmation before ordering a       copy of the certificate, The GRO site says that the Stephen Nesfield       that died in 1838 was 45 at death.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
