An annual tradition I've maintained for some time...
cross-posted to groups related to British Isles history/culture
   and nobility,and the deceased...

This is a list ONLY of men who were *killed serving in World Wars* and
held,or if they had not been killed in World Wars would have succeeded to,
British hereditary titles that still exist or have titled relatives
still extant.Plenty of younger brothers, cousins, etc. also lost their
lives...and I have insufficient resources to track titles that died
out thanks to World Wars(e.g. Baron Llangatock,Baron Blythswood).
The Viscounty of Cross died out in 2005 with a peer whose younger
brother was killed in WW II,1944,the Marquessate of Cambridge in
1981 with a peer whose younger brother died in that war in 1940.
I omit those who would only have succeeded at an impossible age,e.g.
the father (born 1879,killed 1943) of the Egerton baronet succeeding 2008,
or Henry Carden(1855-1915) grandfather of the listed John Rory Carden.
The Hunter Blairs would have been added for 2006 had I known at the time,
Lieutenant Carden would have been added in 2008,and the Coventry brothers
and Gilfrid Lewthwaite should have been added in 2004.
I should have had Henry Hoare and Sir Frank Rose from the beginning of
   this file.

(I am covering those killed in action and those killed on active
service, but not those who merely "died on active service",e.g.
the Lucas-Tooth baronet whose elder brothers are listed below.
Dying from wounds I count if the war was still on...Sir Ralph
Anstruther,Bt.,was born in 1921 to a father who died the next
   month from WW I wounds,that doesn't qualify,nor does the 11th
Duke of Argyll's father dying in 1926 of an illness contracted
in WW I[illness I count as "d.a.s." even if the war was still on].
Nor does being an apparently civilian casualty, like the
6th Baron Auckland,or being "killed by enemy action" like the
late Lord Kingsale's father or Lord Tweeddale's father.)

Nor,on the other side of the coin,do I count those who died as
heir presumptive to titles to which senior heirs were later born.
