   As Mr. Putin and his policy have 80% of the popular vote, the alternatives   
   would have to   
   come to power by violent means, and preserve their power by the same means,   
   meaning   
   authoritarian, which would defeat their purpose and mission.   
      
   It appears that the time for regime change in Russia had just not yet come,   
   and Mr. Putin   
   might even be a lesser evil than some, more hardline communist, options.
