   This is not called that way by accident.   
      
   The oldest preserved literary work is the Epic of Gilgamesh.   
      
   By that time, it describes already developed and established practice   
   of the holy prostitutes in the Temple of Love, Fertility and War of the goddess   
   Ishtar (later related to Ashtoreth in the Holy Bible).   
      
   The goddesses found the resilience of hero Enkidu to their charms an   
   insult to gods.   
      
   Eventually, the women in eldest profession despise any hard work and   
   loathe people who earn through sweat of their brow. They want everything   
   purchased by the currency they won plenty, and to ascend to the position   
   of the economic, political, scientific, and religious power. Sometimes   
   directly, but classically mostly over their puppet rulers, like Jezebel   
   used Ahab in the Book of Kings.   
      
   Their guidance is often that of whim and spiteful arrogance: though   
   Ahab owned as the king half of Israel, Jezebel conspired a plot against   
   poor Nabot and his sons to kill them and seize their rather modest   
   vineyard, that was not a ten-thousandth of what Ahab already possessed.   
      
   Eventually, it had cost him life and kingdom.   
      
   Jezebel ended up devoured by her own dogs, but for Nabot, the damage   
   was done.   
      
   He and his sons were accounted among the righteous ones.
