   converting to a completely reverse opinion those whom we had originally

   The German soldier has again proved that he is the best soldier in the   
   world. He was that in the time of FREDERICK THE GREAT (reigned 1740-86),   
   and he has always been that. When it's a question of holding on, that's   
   when he reveals his full effectiveness. On every level, every man does   
   exactly what is expected of him. After the campaign in the West, people   
   were still saying that the soldier of to-day hadn't the endurance of the   
   infantryman of the first World War. Here, on the Eastern front, he has
