   You think 0.7 million years ago is a long time?  Honey, the Isthmus of   
   Panama formed about 3 million years ago, and it took some hundreds   
   of thousands of years beyond that to cool the seas and spark the   
   Quaternary Period, our present ice age.   
      
   The only way the ice can only go back 0.7 million years is if it got warm   
   enough to melt all of it at one or more points during the ice age, without   
   human industry or our CO2 levels.
