From: jtem01@gmail.com               ...while the British empire sat the Irish, the Boars, the Indians,       the Chinese (etc) on their lap & fed them Bon Bons. Right?              The Poles used to say, of the Russian empire, and I'm paraphrasing       here, may not be an exact quote but the gist of it is true:              "They take our beef and in exchange we give them our wheat."              For its day, the Roman empire was fairly enlightened. They brought       peace, order, they made the roads & seas safe to travel, they       brought hygiene to cities, they created markets that never could have       existed any other way...              Slavery? That was already ancient before Rome built its first wall.              Wars? They didn't even invent their own weapons! They copied the       weapons of war that others were using, shaped their legions against       warring nations & tribes.. "Only the dead have seen an end to war."                                                 -- --              https://jtem.tumblr.com/post/654901912313921536              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
