Sure. I think most newsreaders (except Thunderbird) still support cp437. But
in the case you want to try something else, DM added a feature for me to
basically force translation to utf-8 on all messages with the "-utf8" option.
This option makes those CP437 characters viewable in Thunderbird, too.
