I ended up making two bash scripts, one using 'wget' to download the QWK packet, and then another using 'ftp' to upload the REP packet. I figure if I telnet in to the BBS, I may as well just stay there and read the messages (lol?). However, if I want to read messages outside of the BBS, I shouldn't need to login to it via telnet and go through the whole login process, just to download the QWK packet and logoff. ;) To each their own, of course.
