If you classify ftp is insecure, then use ftps instead (yes, Synchronet
supports it). But really, no one in the path between the client and your BBS
cares what your user password is or the contents of the QWK packets you're
transferring, so secure-auth and data privacy is over-kill, but it's there to
use if you want it.
