Agreed there, however, it takes a lifetime to try and remember all of vi(m)'s
key combinations. Either that, or you're constantly looking at the manpage or
help screens. ;)

Does Outlook allow you to use an external editor of any kind? If so, you may
be able to whip up something that opens up vim (I'm fairly certain it's
available for Windows, at least).

Other than that, options are always nice to have.. and my reply wasn't meant
to mean "no, you shouldn't be able to do that", but rather "I wouldn't want
that" and it came out wrong (big difference, I know).
