   Linda Smith, who had been President of the British Humanist Association   
   for just over a year, has died aged 48.   
      
   She was warmly welcomed to this position by many admirers, including me.   
   I was a little disappointed that we heard little from her recently: I   
   did not know, for she had kept it very quiet, that she had been   
   suffering from ovarian cancer for over three years.   
      
   We are reduced by her loss.
