Welcome, Evelyn. I hope that you may find something of value here - we
   do have occasional flashes!

A lot of humanists find Buddhism the most acceptable of the major
religions. It has no god, a reputation for peacefulness, and the Dalai
Lama writes sympathetically. I could be persuaded that the world would
be a happier place if everyone had followed the Buddha's teachings -
but, of course, we would still be living in ways which the Buddha would
   recognise.

We now know that suffering is not inevitable, and that we should, as far
as is possible, work to eliminate it. Easier said than done, of course,
but it is the path to tread.

   Best wishes,
