   celebrating Christmas?

There is a hoo-haa going on in the UK regarding the celebration of
Christmas. It comes in various forms: the Archbishop of York has accused
"aggressive secularists" of undermining the traditional Christian
festival by sending non-religious cards, and criticising the performance
of Nativity plays in schools, and the holding of carol services in
churches. Two reasons are given: PC concerns that such things will upset
our Muslim and other religious groups, and that we are no longer a
   Christian country.

Now, in all this fuss, it has been reported that the U.S. of A.,
generally regarded here as a much more Christian country than we are,
calls the festival "the Holiday" and doesn't place much religious
   significance on it.

Can this be right? And is this new? I've never been over at this time,
   so would welcome enlightenment.

   Thanks for any helpful contributions.
