   Two truly old-fashioned gentlemen.  The endowments were, of course,   
   trust funds.  Certainly better contributions than statues or the like.   
      
   The Candler's have statues in abundance but they contributed and   
   are still contributing to educational institutions like the AU complex, RGNS,   
   Emory University, and others, with their abundance of buildings named for the   
   Candlers.   
      
   Also the Smithsonian being a monument to the Smithsons who raised a homeless   
   waif   
   who became wealthy in later life and felt he owed his success to the Smithsons.
